Sun Valley Events - December 2016
I constantly find myself saying "I want to go on vacation to Sun Valley,'' and that is never more true than during the holidays. This year's holiday schedule seems more jam-packed than ever. Here are a few things to get you out and about in Sun Valley, Ketchum and Hailey this December. Most events are free. And check out the link at the bottom for the complete schedule.

Ketchum Holiday Tree Lighting, December 7
Come enjoy cookies and cocoa as the City of Ketchum Lights up Town Square at 480 Fourth Street East from 4:30 to 6 PM.
Hailey Holiday Market - December 10 & 11
Celebrate the holidays with crafts, goodies and gifts from 12 local artists and vendors. Lunch available on site from The Haven Food Truck. At the Wood River Sustainability Center. Saturday Dec. 10 from 10am-5pm, Sunday Dec. 11 from 10am-4pm. Wood River Sustainability Center.
Open-Air Holiday Market, December 10 and 11
At the Sun Valley Resort from 12 PM to 8 PM
New this year will be a European-style market with vendors offering everything from traditional wreaths to roasted nuts. Stroll the booths, while sipping on some spiced cider and munching linzer cookies.
Lights in the Garden Kickoff Party - December 14
Enjoy the beautiful, lighted displays at the Sawtooth Botanical Gardens. Warm up near the fire pit and drink hot cocoa, cider and nibble on snacks. We'll count down the lighting of the grounds together, visit with Santa, sing holiday songs and Christmas carols. There will also be a kid friendly craft for the little ones. 5:30 PM to 10 PM
The Community Library Presents Holiday Storytelling for Kids – December 15
At the Lodge Sunroom | 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM | Drop by to listen to your favorite holiday stories in the Sun Valley Lodge Sunroom at Sun Valley's storytelling open house. Each child will receive a holiday treat bag when they leave. The Community Library is partnering with Sun Valley to share these festive stories with the children.
Tree Lighting Ceremony – Saturday, December 17, 2016 – 5:30 to 6:30
In the Sun Valley village, the tree lighting celebration includes Santa, the Sun Valley Carolers, live holiday music, ice carving demonstrations and free cookies and hot cocoa
Sun Valley’s 80th Birthday – Wednesday, December 21 – 2:30 to 10 PM
Celebrate Sun Valley’s 80th birthday. Catch a free screening on Sun Valley Serenade (1941) in the iconic Opera House at 2:30 PM. Sonja Hene, John Payne and Milton Berle star in this madcap musical adventure on and off the mountain. Follow that up with some classic cocktails and a night of dancing in the Duchin Room. Wear your dancing shoes from 7-10 PM. Music by Brooks Hartell.
Hokey Pokey Night in Sun Valley at the Ram Bar – Thursday, December 22 – 7 to 9 PM
Did you know that the Hokey Pokey was invented in Sun Valley, Idaho? I didn’t! Come and enjoy an evening of Hokey Pokey Dancing and Cocktails at The Ram, where the Hokey Pokey was invented in 1949. Get your dancing shoes on and get ready to step up to the Hokey Pokey Challenge… because, “That’s what it’s all about.” Music by Larry Harshbarger.

And everyone's favorite - The Torch Light Parade Down Dollar Mountain - December 24, 2016
Christmas Eve Celebration | Ice Show, Dollar Torchlight Parade & Fireworks
Gates open @ 3:00pm, Show starts at 5:30 pm
A new ice show production is being introduced this season, highlighting modern renditions of classic holiday music. “Skating in a Winter Wonderland” will feature solo performances by Kim Navarro, Brent Bommentre, and other professional skaters. Group numbers will be performed by the Sun Valley Figure Skating Club and visiting holiday guests. The traditional appearances by the Sun Valley Carolers and Santa Claus are on the schedule, followed by the Dollar torchlight parade and fireworks. Free hot cocoa & cookies will be served.
